Pin Cushion

After last weeks 'On the Shelf' theme over at My Place and Yours, hosted by Vic of Punky & Me, this week its 'My Pin Cushion'.
After one two many a times of locating lost pins in the carpet with the heel of my foot, I decided to make a pin cushion. Using the concept of making a fabric Yo-Yo, I then stuffed it and added a button.
Simple, but oh so effective in keeping those pins off the ground.

I used a piece of this thrifted fabric, with the cutest city print and a thrifted button too.

Come join in the fun here.

Vintage Finds and the Week that was..

A spot of cross stitch for 50c.

This set of pale mint green coloured Johnson crockery, half a dozen each of large dinner plates, smaller dinner plates, bread and butter plates and bowls.

Another Johnson plate (50c) and the contents of a jar of buttons ($2).

This week has proved a bit of a stressful one. Firstly our cats, both inside pets, escaped outside, we live near a busy main road, so of course we were very worried. We found our first cat 'Tilly' the next morning, after a sleepless night, hiding in a garden bed close to home, but our second cat, 'FiFi' is yet to be found, this happened mid week, so it's not looking to promising for her return.

FiFi

New graduate positions were also released on Friday for those completing their Bachelor of Nursing this year, and I was majorly disappointed to think I did not get a position at my first hospital preference, but then the next day I received an email and I had in fact been offered a full time position near Orange, NSW for next year, so I guess it was meant to be. I haven't been to Orange before, any fellow bloggers live there or know the area, I'd love to hear about it.

So with a move now a definite in the new year the sorting and getting rid of all the accumulated 'stuff' begins. Currently I've placed a box labelled 'Op shop' in nearly every room in the house, with the thought that if the box is within easy reach then there's no excuse to not to get rid of whatever it is that is no longer being used or is no longer wanted. The boxes are already being filling up, so I'll classify that idea as a success. Anyone have any other tried and tested methods of decluttering their homes?

Wishing you one and all a wonderful week ahead. x

Unearthed Treasures

This weeks thrifting has been of a minimum, with hospital clinical placement for Uni all week. I've been allocated to theatre and have really enjoyed it, but the early starts sure are a struggle. I managed a bit of Op shopping yesterday after a bit of a sleep in, finding a few little gems.

Beautiful tea towel and fabric

Fowlers jars. Where can I find the lids for these?

More buttons added to the collection

And some put to good use

Treasures and a Mystery

A visit to a newly found op-shop this week resulted in a few treasures at bargain prices.

Johnson of Australia- 8 each of dinner and bread and butter plates ($2).

Pyrex bowl, for 50c how could I not have this little one.

Australian Golden Stamp Book and Austrlain Golden Project Book with gummed stamps. And FiFi, eying off the illustrated feathered creatures.

And a bag of buttons, spools of thread and this mystery item at the front. I'm thinking it's something sewing related, but I havent been able to find out what it is. It feels fairly heavy for its size, the end is fairly pointed, and looks to be made of bone or maybe tusk. Any ideas on what it is would be great.

Charming Kitchen Catches

With my Fiance's reduced work hours, our Op-Shopping outings have increased.. Yay, lucky me. All this weeks Op-Shop finds have a kitchen theme.

This cute tea towel to add to the growing collection.

Two kitchen chairs. They need a bit of work, but are so comfortable. $5 each. 'Tilly' always has to get in on the photo shoots.

A colander ($2). Fairly solid and heavy as far as colanders go. Well used, and showing its age, so perfect for...

displaying my buttons.

And this Corningware dish. Perfect size for the microwave.

This Weeks Wintery Treasures

With the weather cooling down, and the nights becoming rather chilly, the search was on for woollen blankets, and we didn't come back empty handed- two singles and one queen.

This scarf ($1.50)..perfect for wearing with a snug winter jacket. I've never seen a scarf with this Picasso design before.

And these vintage buttons, two jars worth totalling $7. I like the tactile design of the white floral ones.

Creative Ventures

This past week has proved to be an enjoyable one, with creating and crafting a plenty. Having no uni commitments, and plenty of perfect weather to be inside out of the rain and cold, the choice of creativity was an easy one. The sewing tasks had been awaiting a while. Firstly fitting and stitching the lounge cushion cover, which had been on the list for over six months; plus mending a few clothes, nothing too exciting I know, but using the using the sewing machine is always fun.
The creativity extended to making a few greeting cards and using some of my button collection in the process. The button assortment grew further with two more jars full of vintage treasures (some of which are pictured in the new header) found during my thrifty adventures during the week.
