little tienda
another dress. a bit of a change as this one is not made by me, instead it's a little tienda dress (my second one now) and in a beautiful shade of blue with a rainbow of embroidery. I took the hem up on it and it's now the prefect length for me and oh so comfortable to wear.
teamed with my favourite tan lotta clogs, wewood watch, op-shopped silver bangle and a timber bracelet from deadwood creative (it's amazingly made from a skateboard)
with beautiful autumn temps these last few days I'm getting as much wear from this beauty before it cools down too much. x

tablecloth dress.
my first (of hopefully many more) wearing post of 2015.
with the weather so hot in my new town I've noticed a bit of a gap in my wardrobe.
one of lose fitting, easy wear dresses.
I made this one with a thrifted tablecloth and a thrifted pattern- Butterick 3349.
it's a simple pattern with (after alterations by me) only two pattern pieces- a front and a back. I tried a high/low hem for the first time too.
I'm still trying to perfect the neckline binding. I can't seem to make it sit flat. any tips?
wearing it with Lotta clogs, WeWood watch and thrifted bangle.

field day attire
today we made the drive to Murrumbateman to visit the annual Murrumbateman Field Days.
the sun was shining, a perfect Spring day really. there was so much to look at, and dream of one day buying for a farm of our own.
there are hundreds of exhibitors including cute Belted Galloway cattle, bags of freshly picked apples, fudge, solar panels, tractors, worm farms, alpaca scarves and blankets, chooks, timber furniture and vegie seedlings... a bit of everything really.
wearing:
chambray shirt: retail
jeans: op-shopped (Sportscraft)
timber sunglasses (made from eco-friendly bamboo): down that little lane
satchel: op-shopped
wooden beads: op-shopped
boots: Baxter Boots and Shoes (a little purchase from this Goulburn-based business)
hat: Akubra
both the boots and hat are new purchases and both are in keeping with my ethical clothing pledge. Akubra and Baxter boots are accredited through Ethical Clothing Australia.

a floral dress and tooled leather bag
so with the delightful Spring weather here finally I've been able to wear this dress. I made it back in the autumn but didn't get much of a chance to wear it as the temperatures were rather winter-like.
the fabric is op-shopped upholstery type fabric and I used a Style pattern 3671 for the top and a simple pleated skirt.
dress: handmade
tooled leather bag: newly thrifted from the tip-shop ($2)
belt: Oroton snakeskin, op-shopped ($2)
tan clogs: Lotta from Stockholm

fresh denim
a little outfit post.
I donned a newly op-shopped apron for a spot of house tidying and cleaning.
then off for a coffee date.
jeans: my favourite jeans got a bit of a spruce up with some dye and look like new. you can see some before pics here and here. yes I'm one of those people who wear their jeans until they're threadbare, usually in the backside region. this is the first time I've died denim and cant wait to update more pieces with fabric dye.

reversible wear.
so remember this vest I shared back here...
a perfect combination of woollen blanket and vintage floral sheet in my opinion.
well I discovered that it's reversible. so I can wear it twice as much now.

wearing: tweed
the newest addition to my wardrobe is this tweed coat. a lucky find at the op-shop for $7 and the perfect fit. Jackets tend to be a bit troublesome in finding a good fit I find. I wore this outfit to birthday coffees.
I've paired it with my usual jeans. doily scarf handmade by me and brooch from Melinda of moose & bird.

wearing: lotta from stockholm
another wearing post.
you'd be right if you thought you'd seen this dress before, I shared it with you at the end of 2013. Gosh I cant believe that was nearly 4 months ago. the year is just flying on by.
this time I styled it a little differently and paired it with my latest purchase, a pair of Lotta from Stockholm clogs. I had been admiring these lovely little clogs for months and decided to treat myself to not one but two pairs.
and in keeping with my ethical clothing pledge these shoes are constructed from sustainably sourced and produced materials.
wearing
dress: handmade from a vintage sheet
belt: op-shopped
clogs: Lotta from Stockholm
earrings: swap meet

wearing: checks and denim
this week has been a busy one. usual work on Monday and Tuesday. drive to Sydney on Tuesday evening. training day Wednesday. drive back home. then today drive to Canberra for work.
so with a day off on Thursday we travelled to the delightful little town of Crookwell. there was a visit to the one little op-shop which saw us leave with a suitcase to add the collection, a floral sheet and milk glass. a café for lunch and coffee. then home again with a little stop-off to take some snaps at a viewing spot for the wind turbines by the roadside. it's so green and picturesque at the moment.
wearing
jeans: trusty jeanswest. they'd be getting close to 5 years old now and still going strong
shirt: gap. op-shopped
shoes: wardrobe staple
leather belt and satchel: op-shopped

a fuchsia dress for the ball
Saturday night was a rare night out. I was invited to attend a ball, a Rainbow Ball which was a fundraising event for the Stillbirth Foundation of Australia and Heartfelt.
The story of Heartfelt really touched me, learning that this photography service is available to families at such an emotional time to capture those precious moments together.
I made a dress for the occasion. the fabric is a new purchase, but I styled it with vintage, op-shopped accessories. a sparkly necklace and earrings and a glow mesh purse. the earrings were originally screw-backed but with the advice of the lovely Christina I was able to convert them to post backs.
the evening was lovely. I got to meet some beautiful ladies and the night raised several thousand dollars for such important organisations.

diy vintage doily scarf
autumn also means boots, tights, a cardigan and a light scarf too.
with the stack of op-shopped doilies slowly growing I decided to make an infinity scarf. it's basically just a collection of doilies and small linens stitched together end to end to create a loop.
1. select a number of doilies/linen handkerchiefs/place mats.
2. decide on their layout. my scarf is about 2m in length, so select enough linens to reach about this length
3. stitch each one to the next to create a 2m length then stitch the 2 ends together to create a loop.
and that's it. simply double over and wear with your favourite cardi, and maybe a pretty brooch too.
brooch: handmade by the lovely Melinda.

wearing: blue bohemian traders
another outfit to share. i seem to be on a bit of a roll with the wearing posts, i don't know how much longer it'll last though as my wardrobe isn't that well stocked at the moment. i guess it's a good excuse to do a bit more op-shopping. not that I need much of an excuse.
wearing:
denim top: from the wardrobe. it's a fav at the moment as it's so versatile. you'll find me wearing it here too.
skirt (which is actually a dress): op-shopped
scarf: a new purchase from Bohemian Traders. it's a beautiful soft cotton and is lovely and light.
hope you are having a lovely week. x
