the thrift wish list
those of you that op-shop, garage sale, scour council clean ups, travel near and far to visit farm clearing sales and buy pre-loved will probably have one. that little list, often stored away in your head, filled with treasures that you would one day love to come across in your travels. maybe it's a book you had as a child, that final piece of crockery to complete your set or that mid century planter.
on my list..
a liberty print item of clothing. one that ideally fits perfectly or that I can refashion
another vintage sheet in my very favourite design (1st pic). yes I already have one but I can not bear to cut into it. if I had a second one it would become a dress
a milk glass cake stand
patterns- for a cape/poncho and also a mens vest
a church pew or two. I think these look amazing in the hall or on the front verandah
I'd love to hear what's on your thrift wish list. feel free to comment or maybe you'd like to blog about it too.

Despite my own love of vintage sheets if I come across that design I may just send it your way.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think it's easier to list what isn't on my list! at the moment... vintage fabric covered boxes, a set of blue vintage Reader's Digest books, spring blossom Pyrex bowls, an original old wrought iron gate xxx
ReplyDeleteThis is fun Zara! I am always looking for old toy caravans, different to the ones I already have in my collection. Also, Little Golden books that we haven't already got. I love your list, it is actually good to know because I have a habit of remembering bits and pieces that other people are looking for :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great topic. I might eventually write about it too (thank you for the idea), but a quick list would include vintage flat sheets and pillowcases, vintage table linens, anything kitcheny with strawberries on it (that's my kitchen's "theme"), canning jars and old wooden chairs with seats that can be reupholstered.
ReplyDeleteI am a collector of vintage sheets although I do find them getting quite expensive now so unless it really appeals to me I don't buy it. I do love op shops!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Liberty collector, hoping one day to make a quilt. I get a feeling when I'm nearing an op shop, I seem to be able to feel when there is something great waiting for me to find it. I have well over 20 now. http://plainjanecreations.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Liberty%20shirts
ReplyDeleteI do also have a small milk glass pedestal cake plate, another great thrifty find. The joy of the chase is addictive. I would love a church pew one day if I come across a small one. Have fun!
I always keep an eye out for a pedestal milk glass cake plate for you, Zara. At one stage milk glass in Op shops was as plentiful as jam jars, but not anymore.
ReplyDeleteI collect Liberty prints too (since 1988!) but it has always been as rare as hen's teeth in the op shops. Just recently I found a size 18 shirt-dress in Liberty Tana Lawn fabric, no signs of wear, and will make something for Ivy this Summer.
I have almost crossed all off my wish list (one advantage of my advanced years!), being a church pew, a bow-front china cabinet, full collection of Cornishware in the caramel & white stripe design, a treadle sewing machine, and an Arabia 'Honey Bee' design honey pot. I still cannot walk by a bargain in vintage cotton sheets or soft woollen blankets, they are so addictive!
A church pew or two sounds fabulous for verandahs and whatnot. I'd love to find an old leather or velvet couch - but not holding my breath! I girl can dream (and Pin) after all! :)
ReplyDeleteil keep a look out for the vintage sheet, I sort through the linen on Wednesday when I spend the afternoon volunteering at my local Lifeline op shop. x
ReplyDeleteChurch pews! Most definitely are on my list. Another vintage kitchen cabinet with glass in is on my list. Old signs of all kinds. Old scales. Old fans. I shouldn't say this, but rolling pins! I only have 30 or so! I am running out of room here so my list has shortened. LOL Happy treasure hunting to you:) x
ReplyDeleteYou always find such treasures! I don't have a wishlist as such but I'm always on the hunt for lovely vintage fabric and linens. And anything else that catches my eye. Happy hunting xx
ReplyDeleteI barely go thrifting these days but on the rare occasion I do, I usually do a quick scan for milkglass, depression glass, vintage linen, pyrex. I do have some treasures from a recent a swap meet so I should post about that soon.
ReplyDeleteI will look out for the sheet. I never see milk glass though.. What kind of Cape were you after?
