so after I shared a photo with Kylie of a tea towel quilt the motivation arrived and I decided to make one of my own.
so here it is.. my latest handmade piece.
the great thing with this quilt is that you don't have to hack into those precious t towels. they are basically left complete and stitched together.
I backed this one with a thrifted woollen blanket (in the same colour-way as my vest) and made the binding from a coral-striped sheet.
i quilted it by stitching down either side of the tea towel joins. it's a fairly heavy quilt with the blanket backing so with my little sewing machine this was about all the quilting i could manage. it measures 128cm x 211cm.
i used all city and state themed t towels for this one and I'm already planning the next.. I'm thinking a calendar one.
do you have a favourite t towel up-cycling project?
Best quilt I've seen in a long time I love this, I may have to do this with my tea towel collection, I haven't had the heart to cut them up. I have seen tea towel curtains hung up in a kitchen - they looked great xo
ReplyDeleteI love it Zara....you always have such fabulous ideas xxx
ReplyDeleteOh its so wonderful.I have some tea towels I dont want to cut or use in the kitchen so this is a great idea! xx
ReplyDeleteYou just read my mind. Last week I found many Dutch calendar tea towels that my MIL collected. Think I will try the quilt idea. Like you, I didn't want to cut them into pieces. Have a great weekend. Linda@Wetcreek Blog
ReplyDeleteHow clever is that! Great idea & what a fab way to preserve those favourite tea towels. Xx
ReplyDeletelove the quilt! Just wish I could find tea towels in op shops here.
ReplyDeleteI really love this Zara, well done! The old blanket seems to fit perfectly with these tea towels x
ReplyDeleteOh, that is so vibrant, and a great way to use excess linen T.T's!!
ReplyDeleteAn extra blanket on the bed these frosty nights is much needed, too.
Fabulous Upcycling Zara, well done!
ReplyDeleteA super idea...tea towels here do the rounds with drying dishes...but I think they'd much prefer life as a warm throw quilt!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! Might just whip one up for a christmas present for my sister. I have some kiwiana teatowels that might be good for her when she is homesick. She lives in your fair land now. I am so happy I followed the link from House of Humble today. I am so enjoying reading your blog as I have a coffee
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteAnne xx
Love it! A tea towel quilt is on my hit list. So far have just done some cushions and clothes for kids, the latest two being my eldest daughters Xmas dress and a pair of racer shorts for my youngest son. I too use woollen blankets for backing on cushions and quilts. Such a great material to upcycle without buying new wadding...
