yesterday I got to pick up a much awaited birthday gift. something that has been on my wish list for some time. a new camera. an Olympus OM-D EM-5. having only ever owned a basic digital camera, all the buttons, dials and settings of this big girl camera is taking a bit of getting used to.
any tips or tricks on getting to know this new camera?

Best tip from me Zara, is using a tripod to keep it steady especially for close work like embroidery
ReplyDeleteThat is exciting. I would love a new camera. But after having to replace my laptop unexpectedly a new camera has moved down the list. I thought your photos were amazing anyway! xo
ReplyDeleteDitto. I just assumed you had a top of the line camera due to the outstanding pics you take - can they possibly get any better? xx
DeleteOh thank you lovely ladies. x
DeleteLooks lovely Zara...have fun with it :)
ReplyDeleteWow! So exciting! I only use my iPhone so I have no tips...but I can't wait to see all the photos that you take!
ReplyDeleteSuper! I love its retro look, it reminds me of my old Mamiya SLR.
ReplyDeleteZara, I assumed you were already using a top end D-SLR camera, your photoraphy is superb in all your blog posts. Seriously, I need to know what make and model your OLD camera is, please!
The only tip I'd give is to do a small class workshop in DSLR photography - you'll get to learn all the tricks the user guide doesn't tell you (or if it does, its all worded in double Dutch). Have fun, its a fabulous birthday present.

Hi Susan,
DeleteThe camera I was using was a Fujifilm Finepix T200.

Blimey, Zara, like Susan and Caroline above, I'm amazed that your previous photos were taken with what you call a "basic" camera. I'm in shock! I've no tips to impart - I can barely use our super duper camera which is why I've now reverted to a simple pimple cheapo one! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. x
DeleteOh I have no idea (how to use this camera) but it looks gorgeous!! How exciting. Looking forward to seeing what you can do with it :-)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...I think it's just trial and error. The more photos you take, the more you learn. Lucky we no longer have to spend a fortune getting them developed to discover we've taken duds!!!!! Have fun getting to know your new camera! x
ReplyDeleteHow exciting. What an amazing birthday gift. Enjoy xx
ReplyDeleteFiddle Zara, and fiddle with it lots :-) When you do something your not sure what you did, turn it off and then on again.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your new baby!
Oooh, shiny new camera - lovely! I have no idea how an Olympus runs though! Google is your friend - any time I'm unsure about something camera related I type it into that search bar. Someone beforehand has always asked the same question! And sometimes you can find really great videos and tutorials too. Good luck with it! xx
ReplyDeleteI can highly recommend Tim Coulsons photography course he is a master! I did it last year and have now been on manual for 12 months. Otherwise just fiddle around with your settings and take heaps of photos, best of luck!
