as promised a bit of woollen blanket crafting...
in the past couple of months i have come across some lovely woollen blankets while op-shopping. now i'm not usually one to cut into woollen blankets- they are becoming rarer in the op-shops and the prices can be a bit on the expensive side. these few are cot size and had a couple of marks that soaking and washing didn't remove so this made for guilt-free cutting.
if you're on the lookout for woollen blankets don't forget to check out the shelves/boxes marked 'pet bedding'- i've come across several blankets in the past (even king and queen size) without a hole or stain for less than $5 here.
so my first spot of repurposing was this blanket come beanie. lined with a striped cotton sheet. it was super quick to cut out and stitch.
i based the pattern on this one from lucykate crafts and made the same pattern in the striped sheet to line it, simply putting right sides together stitching around the base, leaving a small gap to turn through and stitching the hole closed. and yes its keeping my head warm right now.
and i'm already planning my next one, this time with a floral lining and maybe even a pompom on top.
any more ideas for woollen blanket repurposing?
x
How cute. i like repurposing woolen blankets as well. Love your paired back chair
ReplyDeleteI love this idea Zara, especially your plans for a floral lined option. I too have found some lovely blanket specimens in the pet bed section. Would love to whip up a mini version for my Liongirl. mel x
ReplyDeleteAdorable beanie, love the last post cushions as well, so pretty. Have found some lovely unstained blankets in the dog blanket/painters sheets bins at the oppy as well, sometimes in better nick than in the manchester shelves.
ReplyDeleteThere int much more I can say other than nawww it's sweet. X
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea! It would be so warm. I cant wait to see you next one!xx

ReplyDeleteLovely. You could make some little coats for the chooks!
ReplyDeleteOh Zara the beanie is beautiful, I can't wait to see the floral one. I agree on prices , in the last few years it's hard to even find them . It would be 5 years since I found 2 lovely pink woollen blankets at Anglicare xx
ReplyDeleteSuper clever! I think a pom pom is a must! I have seen really lovely kids jackets made out of old woolen blankets, and super sweet hot water bottle cozys too. :)
ReplyDeleteI just made some babies sleeping bags and lined them in vintage fabrics {its on my blog}I love blankets in quilts as well :)
ReplyDeleteSo darn cute. Blankety cushion covers are nice too. xx
ReplyDeleteI love that hat SO MUCH!!! Totally going to make one right now xxxxxx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I love the soft colours in those old Laconia blankets, beautiful pinks and blues and oranges.
ReplyDeleteNice work Zara.
ReplyDeleteI've also found a couple of 'almost new' unstained woollen blankets in the pet bins with no sign of moth damage, yet surprisingly some blankets in the bedding section of the store were not in as good condition, well-worn and faded, but more expensive! Staff error, maybe? I now wish I'd thought to look in the pet bins years ago!
I made a couple of toddler 'sleeping bags' from my stash (I did not attach a hood). I lined them in flannelette so they wouldn't be too scratchy, and these were a great hit.
They also make a good backing for patchwork quilts made from vintage sheets.
Me too! I found a great pure wool blanket in the doggy blanket box at vinnies...
ReplyDeleteso so cute :) I love blanket remaking, I have made armwarmers a trench coat and a cape so far. am working on some hats at the mo, I really like the shape of yours. woop woop for up cycling!
