the remodeling of the shed into a chook house saw plenty of repurposing and make-do:
an old metal trunk as a nest box.
ladder turned roost.
garden stakes became chicken tractor framework.
timber from our first chicken tractor transformed into a door.
& an old silver spoon has a new life as a handle.
do you often upcycle objects?
do you have a favourite repurposed project?
Love your spoon handle! What sort of chooks are they? I'm sure they'll love their new home. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are Wheaten Marans. A heritage breed.
DeleteIf I were are chicken I'd like to live here, such sweet repurposed touches.
ReplyDeleteAWW! Your chooks are lovely! have you got names for them? I love the spoon handle, very clever xx
ReplyDeleteThat spoon handle is the best - love, love, love it! I hope you get lots of lovely fresh eggs.
ReplyDeletethat spoon handle is so sweet. And what gorgeous chickens - so cool to have heritage varieties. I know a friend of a friend with miniature bantams, they are so cute and lay such tiny eggs. x
ReplyDeleteThey look very happy Zara. I concur, the spoon handle is great.
ReplyDeleteI am upcycling all the time but it never looks that pretty. More like just making do because I don't have the right thing.
What lucky chickens!
ReplyDeleteWe just got some chickens too...we adopted two ex-battery hens. They are lovely girls and hopefully in a few weeks they will be fat and feathered and giving us some eggs!
Their house isn't nearly as lovely as yours though!
You've done a great job with that chicken shed - they're going to have happy little lives there for sure! :)
ReplyDeleteYour girls are so pretty and I love their new home. I'm sure they are going to be very spoilt! xx
ReplyDeleteAah...you have no idea how much I love this. Not just the upcycling but having chickens. I so want my own chickens and this has just made me want them more!
ReplyDeleteI love the old spoon handle, it's just darling. I'm so glad you're still blogging, after my 9 month break I have come back and a lot of the bloggers I followed have either (a) stopped posting or (b) had a baby, and their blog is now devoted to that (while I love babies, I'm not yet at that point in my life...) :)
ReplyDeleteSuch great upcycled ideas, I'm always looking for new uses for of items and I just might use your spoon handle idea, it's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWe hope to get two feathered girls before the end of the month, we 're just fixing up an old pen made from recycled timber. We've never had chooks before so it will be fun learning how to care for them.
Love this ... we're moving back into our old house soon and we have a crappy old shed out back that I am going to spruce up for some chickens - I might totally steal your spoon handle idea!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to chickendom. That coop looks very cosy and the spoon handle is a clever and whimsical touch. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteAll the chicken doors at our last home were given spoons & forks as handles. It is a sweet look whilst also practical.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your chickens!
Sarah x
Love the spoon handle. That cosy chicken coop will be much appreciated by your hens in coming weeks when the frosty nights arrive.
ReplyDeleteI often repurpose and upcycle but, unlike yours, my attempts seem to project an image of a junk collector's yard!
I love the way you have made your chook home upcycling things you already had Zara..that spoon handle is ACE!

ReplyDeleteChooks are so fun to keep. Our kids are great at helping to collect the eggs. I love your chooks abode too. Such a swish place to lay their eggs! My feathery girls would be jealous. Jacinta
