The best type of thrifting

Last weeks Bathurst op-shopping adventure also revealed the best type of thrifting...

the free type.

Wandering around the Salvos I spied this suitcase in a trailer out the back. Now I couldn't just leave it there, so off I went to find the op-shop lady, "Oh all the stuff in the trailer is for the tip".  So as you can see the case didn't end up at the tip, instead coming home with us for nothing.

My luck didn't end there...

inside revealed a collection of sewing supplies...

including binding and trim

belt, and zippers

patterns and lace

fabric and old photos...

Rescued from what was destined to become landfill. It doesn't get much better than that.

A little sewing in amongst what feels like non-stop work.

Op-shopping further afield

My days off saw a trip to Bathurst to try our luck in the op-shops. They did not disappoint with a number of bargains making new homes with us.

Fire King, $2

Pyrex, $2

Pillow cases, 50c

And a selection of tea towels.
With the zips picked up last week, the internet painfully slow at the moment and the newest Pin Real Life project complete and needing accessorising there really is no excuse for not sitting in front of the sewing machine.

I better get to it then.

Pin Real Life

With my Pinspiration gained from

 this

the fiance and I set about making the first of hopefully many more..

First step- a timber bed head and foot, found at the local Salvos for $15. Next a sand, then the foot was cut in half and attached to either end of the bed head.

For for the seat part we used garden stakes that were picked up at the farm clearing sale a couple of months back.

A trip to Bunnings and a couple of coats of Taubmans Iron Age later and it was done.

Quality inspection complete and it was onto the front verandah...

to soak up the lovely sunshine, as classic Autumn weather is upon us with it a bit of a chill in the air.

More detailed DIY instructions can be found by the inspiration provider, here.

Making some of my Pinterest pins featured as No. 7 on this years List. Now just to get into it and complete a few more so I can tick it off properly. For a lovely selection of Pin Real Life creations check out the Flickr group.

Have you managed to turn Pinspiration into product?

Thrifted

Hello there, and a Happy Easter to you. I can't believe it's this time of the year again, it only just feels like Christmas was had.

A small spot of thrifting this past week yielded a few finds. No Johnson had here for a few weeks now, which is very disappointing, unlike Laura and Sophie whose crockery collections are most likely expanding as we speak. I may have to widen my thrifting area a bit and check out a few more op-shops further afield.

Danish butter dish, $2

More milk glass, from the 50c bargain shelf

And zippers for more tea towel cushion covers, 50c each.

What treasures have you picked up in your thrifting travels?
