vintage sheet quilt

i've wanted to join in with Christina's Made by Hand link up for weeks now, but most of my sewing of late has not seemed photo or sharing worthy.. think piles of triangles ready to be sewn into bunting, a messy sewing room and threads covering the carpet.

but this week i was determined and with my new camera in hand i snapped away at the finally finished vintage sheet quilt. it has only taken me nearly two years to get it completed and on the bed.
it's not so much of a quilt as it's not actually quilted (several attempts with my little sewing machine later and the bulk of a Queen size quilt and it was just not working for me), so i guess its more of a bed spread. it's backed with strips of more vintage florals.

all the fabrics are from vintage cotton sheets: op-shopped, gifted and swapped.

speaking of swaps... anyone else missing Kellie of green tea and red nails annual vintage sheet FQ swap?

would you be interested in participating if i held a vintage sheet swap?

  2. Looks great, so many wonderful old patterns, some that I recognise. I saw two Johnson stoneware plates yesterday with single pink roses on them and I thought of you. Do you have that pattern?

Here is the vintage sheet project I made for my daughters room. http://plainjanecreations.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/vintage-sheet-room-makeover.html

Then I found a gorgeous vintage table cloth and made Europe pillows to add to her bed. http://plainjanecreations.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/vintage-pillows.html

So much fun. I've also made a baby quilt for our shop out of a vintage cross-stitched table cloth a couple of weeks ago.

    1. I have just been thinking about making a mini quilt for the mini person that I'm carrying - I've never made one before!

I would be interested in a swap, if I can scrounge enough from the supplies that I have with me.

I miss Kellie's blog but we get snippets of her life on instagram now. I just had a look and it's been a year since Kel last posted.

Gorgeous effort with the quilt. Am enjoying seeing photos with the new camera too! xx

  23. Hi, I am visiting you from the Made by Hand Thursdays hop, and I loved your posting about your sheet quilt! It is beautiful, and yes, they do take a long time to make, between life in general and other projects we work on. I sew too, living and caring for my elderly mother....no room to create a sewing space, so I crochet and knit.

I am following you on Bloglovin and joined as a follower....I love sewing and miss it very much! Hope you will stop by and visit my blog at www.sanderellas1.com and join my blog as well. Thanks so much, and I hope to visit with you again! Sandy

  31. Great job Zara and you were seriously reading my mind. I was thinking a few days ago how when I get home and unpack all my sheets that I am itching to start chopping and making all the projects that have been on hold for the last few months. And then I thought, gee hasn't it been ages since any whiff of a VS fat quarter swap and how I would love to do one but that is probably lunacy to take on when I have a whole house to move and unpack! To sum up, count me in and good on you for taking on organiser role. mel x ps the quilt/bedspread looks amazing on your bed.
