At home..

This week there's been a fair bit of early morning and late night cutting, pinning and sewing occurring
A little bit of op-shopping with the Johnson sugar bowl collection gaining a new addition
A wonderful little kitchen shop saw me part with a few dollars in exchange for some new kitchenalia
and with the weather becoming a bit more Spring-like the vegies are showing their appreciation at the sunshine. A worm-wee drink and it shouldn't be long before spinach and ricotta quiche is on the menu again

thrifting & gifting

My first Johnson cake stand, found during last weekends trip to Sydney, and yes it was still in its box.

A spot of Fire King ware, 50c

And some lovely gifts were both given and received...

twas our 5 year anniversary
(by the way this perfume smells absolutely divine).

First week down in my new workplace as well and I survived. The staff are lovely and helpful and I'm slowly learning my way around.

I've got a couple of days off now. A bit more sewing to do (with the possibility of an exciting new venture in store. I don't want to get too excited yet but I've got my fingers and toes crossed), and tomorrow a bit of op-shopping is on the agenda.

Days.

Wednesday marked my last day of one of two six month New Graduate placements. And although my first six months saw me challenged many a time (with the odd occasion of 'Why did I choose to do nursing?'), I also learnt so much (more than 3 years of Uni could ever teach), and made some wonderful friendships. I enjoyed a lovely farewell party on my last shift and a few tears were shed.
Tomorrow I start at another small rural hospital and although I won't be as 'new' as I was when I started my last placement I'm still rather nervous at the thought of all the unfamiliar faces and new routines.

In other news our trip to Sydney on the weekend went well. The other half attended an assessment day which will hopefully mean a relocation to southern NSW come early next year; and study for him.

On the home front the veggie patch is coming along slow and steady. Spring is in the air with daffodils in full flower and the magnolia in next doors front yard about to bloom, so hopefully with the warmer weather in the air the veggie seedlings will come along quickly.
In the kitchen there's been batches of banana muffins, lassagne and homegrown stewed rhubarb- comfort food for the still icy evenings.

$31

A few finds from the week with a grand total of $31.

A couple of bedside cupboards, ready for a bit of a make-over ($10 each).

Cutlery tray (50c)... perfect for the craft room.

More pastel Johnson ware to add to the collection. It is getting rarer and more expensive around here. Although I did get this bowl at a reasonable price.

$10 for this hay fork. The handle is so smooth, I guess from all its use.

It's Winter

It snowed here last night. My first time seeing it so there was a bit of excitement. It was still on the ground this morning and remained so in the shade well into the afternoon.
Parcels arrived this week from a couple of lovely ladies. LGB's to add to the collection from Kylie and vintage sheets from Lea.
Bush lemons turned lemon syrup cordial.
Op-shopping today yielded a few treasures.
And the bags are packed ready for a night away.

Creative Space- bib making

Following on from last weeks baby boy bunting, I completed a bib to match.
It's backed in the same fabric so is reversible, and the clasp is one of those hammer in press-studs that was thrifted a while back.

And now thanks to the always lovely Lea of We Like to Make Stuff I have some new 'boy' fabrics to add to my stash, so there's no excuse for lack of sewing.
And Lea has created a quilt for her son all from vintage sheets if you'd like to check it out. It's amazing.

Sheets and Milk glass

On my one day off work during the week we took a little drive to Bathurst and the op-shops there did not disappoint.  Plenty of vintage floral linens, plus a few other treasures to add to our home.

King flat sheet and pillow cases- $6

Queen flat sheet, $4

Single doona cover- $7

And my favourites, two sets of single size flannelette sheets, still in their packets, $6 each

Placemat titled 'In the Foaling Paddock', free. You can't get much better than that.

And another piece of milk glass to add to the collection, $2

My Creative Space...

The cot sheet, thrifted here has been transformed into a string of bunting all ready to be gifted to a soon-to-be born baby boy.
There's still plenty of sheet left so I'm thinking maybe some bibs or burp cloths like the ones Tania has created, are next on the list.
With so many floral fabrics in the collection, sewing for girls is easy. Sewing up this for a boy provided more of a challenge, so I'm now on the lookout for more 'boy-friendly' fabrics to add to the stash.

Do you have any favourite fabrics or projects for handmade gifts for boys?

Many more creative space happenings here.
